Prague MUN - Hurstpierpoint College

After a 3am wake up call, the delegation set off on an adventure to Prague. Kicking things off as planned, the group took a brisk walk through the city, immersing themselves in its charm. The student’s exploration was guided by “Tall Paul,” whose enthusiasm for Charles IV was nothing short of contagious during the second walking tour of the day. That evening, the students engaged in icebreaker activities within their committees, where early friendships—and a few friendly rivalries—were first established.

The second day marked the official opening of the conference at the historic Bethlehem Chapel. The ceremony was accompanied by the school’s chamber orchestra. Another scenic walk led the delegation to the school, where they encountered famous landmarks, including the iconic staircase from Mission Impossible. A full day of debating followed, serving as a stark reminder of how much time had passed since the last conference—and just how much had been forgotten in the interim.

That evening, the group joined 500 fellow delegates for a traditional dinner at the historic Strahov Monastery. The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the accordion player, who kept everyone entertained throughout the meal. The following morning, Hanna led yet another walking tour, unveiling hidden gems that had somehow been missed and shedding light on the post-communist transformation of Czechia.

The final day saw the longest and most prestigious General Assembly, where Lewis JC and Emma B had the honour of speaking for four minutes each on their resolutions. Emma’s metaphor about a resolution “needing a lifeguard” particularly stood out. While no awards were given, there was a collective sense of disappointment at leaving empty-handed.

That afternoon, the delegation was granted free time to explore Prague, absorbing centuries of history and even witnessing a romantic proposal in front of the Astronomical Clock—arguably a more impressive spectacle than the famous parade of apostles. Later, a folk dance workshop encouraged mingling. The evening concluded with a disco that took a while to gain momentum but ultimately reached festival-like energy levels.
