Music with a Mission - Hurstpierpoint College

Flute pupils from across the school came together for a special concert to raise funds for Cameron’s Orphanage in Mkushi, Zambia. The event featured performances from flautists ranging from Prep School pupils to Sixth Form students. Highlights included Betty C’s lively rendition of ‘Supermarket Trot’ and the Upper Sixth Flutissimo Duo’s stunning finale.

The fundraiser was organised by Flute Teacher Anne Hodgson who is going on the adult expedition to Mkushi in July. Ahead of the trip, she was determined to contribute towards the life-changing initiatives planned for the orphanage. The funds raised will support several key projects, including the construction of additional toilets for the school and a new skills centre at the orphanage. This centre will be equipped with sewing machines, computers, musical instruments, and books, providing the children—now aged 10 to 14—with a space to learn essential life skills. The initiative aims to help these young individuals gain employment and develop into well-rounded individuals.

Organisers hope the concert will inspire more donations of unwanted musical instruments, ensuring the children at the orphanage can continue to explore their creative potential. The concert raised an impressive £330, which will go directly towards these vital projects.
