Lest We Forget - Hurstpierpoint College

On 11 November, pupils across all sections of the College marked Remembrance Day. Pupils in Year 3 through to Shell came together in the morning to remember the fallen of the Hurst community by laying 197 poppies, each representing one of the people who has sacrificed their life for our freedom and peace. In the service for the older pupils, the name of each person was read out, reminding us of the enormity of the impact that war and conflict have had.

The Last Post was played, and two minutes silence were held as we remembered all those who lost their lives in conflicts past and present. The Chaplain spoke on the importance of Remembrance as we look to our world, where war and violence are the reality for so many. Pupils and staff reflected on the words that King George VI spoke on VE Day 1945: “We shall have failed, and the blood of our dearest will have flowed in vain, if the victory which they died to win does not lead to a lasting peace, founded on justice and established in good will.”

Lest We Forget.
