Imogen T awarded the prestigious Arkwright Engineering Scholarship - Hurstpierpoint College

The Arkwright Engineering Scholarship Programme is an internationally recognised award that provides 16-year-old students within the UK with a two-year programme during their A levels.

Hurst pupil, Imogen T who applied as part of her passion in design and technology, worked extremely hard over the past few years. Imogen successfully submitted her application to be an Arkwright Scholar in June. The process, consisting of test, interviews and exams is very lengthy and Imogen did all of this whilst working towards her GCSEs and is delighted to have been awarded such a prestigious scholarship.

This year saw a record-breaking 1,532 applications, marking a 15% increase from previous years. Imogen’s achievement opens doors to valuable opportunities such as financial support, professional mentoring from qualified engineers, and networking events, which will help her pursue her career aspirations in design and technology.

“The Arkwright application process is rigorous and demanding, whilst Imogen was preparing for her GCSEs.  This year saw the second highest number of applications since the programme began over 30 years ago.  It is one of the UKs leading engineering scholarships and a great achievement to get a scholarship.” – Kaeran MacDonald, Head of Design and Technology at Hurstpierpoint College.

As of the end of October, Imogen recieved some additional scholarship funding from a sponsor that chose to award to her. This meant that Imogen was moved onto an externally sponsored scholarship provided by Hitachi Rail Europe Ltd, a fully integrated, global provider of rail solutions across rolling stock, signalling services and turnkey.
