The annual Hurst Unplugged concert took place in the Music School Hall on Wednesday 13 November, offering an evening of vibrant modern music. This much-anticipated event celebrates the creativity of pop and rock, within a relaxed and intimate setting.
Superbly hosted by Will G, the concert featured a variety of soloists and bands from the Senior School performed acoustically for an appreciative audience of families, staff, and peers. Delivering an acoustic performance is no small feat, requiring performers to carefully balance the different dynamics of instruments within ensembles effectively.
Many musicians demonstrated their impressive versatility by accompanying themselves, showcasing their multi-musical talents. The evening’s repertoire spanned genres and decades, including hits from ABBA, Goo Goo Dolls, Birdy, and Bon Jovi. A special highlight was the performance by GCSE Music student Jem D, who captivated the audience with an original, upbeat song highlighting not only his skills in performance in voice and guitar, but also songwriting.
“ Each act was fantastic, with students displaying poise and confidence in captivating the audience. A few tears were shed during the more emotional performances. The bands performed some great collaborative pieces, working very well with the dynamics of playing acoustically. A difficult skill to master but our students rose to the challenge. ” Neil Matthews, Director of Music
