Hurst College Celebrates 175th Anniversary - Hurstpierpoint College

On Thursday 17 October, the Hurst College community gathered in Chapel for a commemorative service to mark the prestigious 175th anniversary. Staff, students, and alumni filled the Chapel, where the Provost, the Rt Revd Jonathan Meyrick, presided over a sung Eucharist, delivering a sermon that honoured the College’s rich history and celebrated its legacy.

A significant part of the service included the opportunity to bless the newly created Hurst hymn books, which feature a handpicked collection of the community’s most beloved hymns. This addition to the College’s traditions was particularly meaningful, offering a symbol of unity and continuity for current and future generations.

The occasion also revisited a set of cherished hymns and prayers that had been central to the centenary celebration 75 years ago, as well as the 150th anniversary 25 years ago. This nod to the College’s history provided a sense of continuity across the decades, allowing attendees to reflect on the institution’s enduring values and the shared spirit that has transcended generations.

As the Chapel filled with hymns and prayers both old and new, the College community honoured its past while looking confidently to its future.
