Grit and Growth: Rugby Festivals - Hurstpierpoint College

U15A Langley Schools Rugby Festival

After a season filled with grit and determination, a squad of 23 players finished the competition at Langley Festival with a performance that exemplified heart and resilience. Despite only securing one win during the tournament against the hosts, the team, guided by coaches Mr Leggett and Mr Smith, left everything on the pitch in a weekend of hard-fought rugby.

The squad’s journey to Langley wasn’t without its challenges. After battling hard all season, a series of injuries forced five U14 players to step up and compete in a higher age category, a testament to the team’s commitment to the sport. Though results may not have gone their way, the players demonstrated fine margins and showed that relentless effort and camaraderie goes a long way.

U18A St Joseph’s National Schools Rugby Festival

The squad of 23, led by coaches Mr Pierrepont, Mr Taggart, Mr Woodhead, and Mr Forrest, entered the prestigious St Joe’s competition. Despite being placed in the tougher group and facing a depleted team, including the entire front row due to injuries the team showcased resilience and determination throughout.

The tournament proved challenging, with the squad suffering defeats to some amazing teams including Kirkham Grammar, Wellington College, and Strathallan School. The results, while disappointing, reflected the team’s fighting spirit against top-tier competition and despite this, it was a worthwhile experience for the team who have gained valuable lessons.

Having missed the event last year, and with three U16s stepping up, the team faced formidable opponents across two days, and showed significant character.
