The Remove and Fifth Form trip to Granada during Michaelmas half-term proved to be an unforgettable adventure, brimming with rich cultural experiences and hands-on learning.

The journey began with the group’s arrival in the vibrant Andalusian city, where the first evening was spent enjoying breathtaking views of the iconic Alhambra from the Mirador de San Nicolás, a popular vantage point.

The excitement of the trip kicked off with a scavenger hunt through Granada’s historic streets, offering students a fun way to immerse themselves in the city’s charm while practicing their Spanish.

A standout feature of the trip was the combination of immersive Spanish lessons and real-world practice. Students had the opportunity to navigate local menus during traditional menú del día lunches, where they confidently ordered in Spanish and sampled authentic regional dishes. Local tapas and churros con chocolate were highlights, allowing students to fully experience Granada’s rich culinary scene.

The trip’s cultural exploration continued with a guided tour of the Alhambra, the world-famous palace complex that tells the story of Spain’s complex history, including the Reconquista. Students were captivated by the intricate architecture and lush gardens, gaining an appreciation for the palace’s historical significance.

Another key stop was Granada’s enchanting Arabic quarter, where students visited a traditional tetería (tea house), immersing themselves in the flavours and ambiance of the city’s Moorish heritage. The group also attended a mesmerising Flamenco performance in the atmospheric caves of the Sacromonte district, where the passionate rhythms left a lasting impression.

For football fans, a tour of the Granada FC stadium offered a unique glimpse into the business side of running a football club. The excitement continued with a thrilling experience watching El Clásico, the iconic match between Real Madrid and Barcelona, at a lively local venue. The electric atmosphere saw students passionately cheering for their teams, with most hoping for a Barcelona victory.

In the end, the trip to Granada was a resounding success. Students practiced their Spanish in real-world situations, immersed themselves in the region’s history and culture, and made lasting memories. The vibrant city of Granada captured their hearts, and many left with a newfound appreciation for the beauty and richness of southern Spain.
