Multi-tasking treat

New Shell students took part in the annual multi-activity day at Broadstone Warren outdoor education centre recently, where a team of dedicated instructors helped the group experience challenging activities they had not attempted before.

Of note was axe-throwing, the high ropes course, abseiling and climbing, in which students challenged themselves to learn a new skill or overcome a fear. In addition, pot-holing also raised heart rates as the tunnels were quite narrow and extremely dark. One of the most original activities, which required a surprising amount of skill and really enhanced team-work, was a pair of climbers competing to scale heights whilst balancing on a precarious tower of crates. After a brief lunch break, the teams were back to it again, engaging in night navigation, low-ropes and archery.

“The day succeeded in its aims of reinforcing the year group’s community and sense of identity, as many more friendships were established,” Karen Pattison, Head of Shell.
