Annual staff v Upper Sixth derby raises over £350 for charity

College staff took on the Upper Sixth in the annual St John’s football match, when £351 was raised for CLIC Sargent.

The game kicked off under a beautiful sunset, as the staff set out to avenge the 15-3 defeat

from the previous year. While they took an early lead through St John’s Housemaster Andrew Daville – who seemed to have something to prove – the students responded swiftly to level the score. The first half continued to ebb and flow in this fashion and ended with the staff 3-2 up.

As the second half began with a flurry of pressure from the students, it was the staff who broke

away and doubled their advantage. At 4-2, the students continued to push forward and pulled one back with 10 minutes to go. Although staff legs had long gone, they managed to hold on to earn their first victory in several years.

The game ended with handshakes all-round and feelings of satisfaction from both sides as,

most importantly, a good sum of money was raised for a very worthy cause.
