Cricket girls perform well

The U13 girls’ cricket team recently took part in the ECB Lady Taverners indoor competition on home ground.

Hurst played Millais in their first game and batted first. After a terrific start from Esme and Isabella, the team were able to capitalise on the Millais bowling later on in the innings with some powerful striking from Charlotte and some excellent running between the wickets from Katie. The team finished their innings on 79 runs having lost just three wickets. Hurst bowled tidily to keep the run rate down and the extras at a minimum, backed up by some brilliant fielding by Sam and Neve. The pick of the bowlers were Grace and Jessica as they restricted the Millais batters, who fell 11 runs short of Hurst’s total.

Our team then played against Tanbridge House School and having won the toss again, batted first. This time it was Katie and Charlotte to open the batting, as we found ourselves in some trouble early on due to some good bowling from Tanbridge House. Having made a great comeback by scoring 99-5 off our eight overs, we knew it would to be tough to defend the total as Tanbridge House had beaten Millais quite convincingly. The girls started their bowling innings brilliantly with both Rosie and Jocelyn delivering with great control, however the team lost by just one run off the very last ball of the game.

What a fantastic morning of cricket, played in a lovely spirit. It was great to see so many talented girls playing competitive cricket. Well done to all involved and to Tanbridge House who go through to the next round of the competition Matthew Reynolds, Master-in-charge of Girls’ Cricket
