"I find that visitors to Hurst, whether to the Pre-Prep, Prep or Senior School, almost invariably comment upon the friendliness, energy and ambition of the place. Yes, we have magnificent buildings and outstanding facilities on a beautiful 140 acre country campus, but it is Hurst's spirit. its vitality, values and the entire community's thirst for excellence which, I believe, uniquely distinguishes this school.

"But please do not just take my word for the quality of education we provide here at Hurst. You will find, below, links to my summaries of the conclusions of the Independent Schools Inspectors who visited all three of Hurst's schools to conduct an Interim Inspection at the end of January 2011 and, within each summary section, you will be able to access their full reports.

"Have a look at their conclusions and at our website. Then if you like what you see and read, please do come and visit the school. Family visits - in which you are shown round the school and have a personal appointment with the School's Head - are easily arranged. Alternatively, you may like to visit us on one of our Open Mornings when you can see the school with other interested families and join us for an informal buffet lunch.

Hurst Headmaster, Tim Manly introduces the conclusions he draws from the reports of the Interim Inspection of Hurstpierpoint College Senior School, Prep School and Pre-Prep School conducted in late January 2011 by the Independent Schools Inspectorate.

Hurst - a Culture & Achievement of Excellence

"The Inspectors have captured so many of the qualities that make Hurst the great school it is today. Their reports clearly identify the overall excellence of the College’s provision in all three schools and provide a very significant body of evidence to demonstrate what we achieve on a day to day basis.”

"I strongly commend the full reports to families who are considering Hurst as an option for the next stage in their child’s education. These can be viewed by clicking through from the summary reports we have compiled on this page.

"Hurst has come a very long way in the last few years but we are far from complacent. A culture of excellence is now deeply embedded in the College’s psyche. We achieve this by placing the needs of our pupils – academically and, just as importantly, in terms of experience, skills, qualities and values – right at the heart of everything that we do. Senior School and Sixth Form - Hurst's headline summary of the Inspectors’ conclusions:

Please note, the ISI use four gradings in their reports: Excellent; Good; Satisfactory; Unsatisfactory.

• The overall quality of the pupils’ achievements is excellent
• Attitudes to learning are outstanding throughout the school
• The quality of teaching is excellent
• The personal development of the pupils is excellent
• Pastoral care, based upon the strong house system is excellent
• These [examination] results, confirmed by inspection evidence of highly supportive teaching and the pupils’ excellent attitudes to learning, indicate that pupils … make good progress overall at all stages when compared to others of similar ability
• Marking and assessment are of good quality and excellent use is made of the challenge grade system to ensure that the pupils know what they have done well and what they need to do to improve their work
• The safety and welfare of pupils are given the highest priority
• The strong boarding experience plays a valuable part in the pupils’ education and personal development
• The governance of the school is excellent
• Excellent leadership, with a clear vision for the future development of the school
