A Level Results

August 2007

‘Pleased and proud’ was Headmaster Tim Manly’s verdict this morning on Hurstpierpoint College’s A level results for 2007.

‘The recent and excellent report from the Independent Schools Inspectorate’ said Mr. Manly ‘clearly recognised that all Hurst pupils learn and achieve well in relation to their ability and these results are a wonderful endorsement of their judgement’.

High achievers all - Charlie Tarr from Hove, Nina Cattaneo from Hurstpierpoint, Charlie Owen, also from Hurstpierpoint, and Loella Bowles from Bolney

‘The overall pass rate’, he continued, was 99.6% with some 37% of our entries achieving A grades and approaching 68 % gaining either A or B passes. I am particularly pleased that so many of our boys and girls this year gained three straight A’s or better and that so many of our students now move on to their University of choice.

The face says it all – Francesca Zoutewelle on discovering that she gained 3 straight As.

‘Our most academic students have performed wonderfully well but I am equally excited by the results achieved by those of our students who would themselves acknowledge that their greatest contribution to life at school has not always been in the academic arena. They have been challenged to raise their expectations, have risen to that challenge and produced results that they can be proud of. They have also given much else to the life of the school – be it in sport or the creative and performing arts – emphasising the incalculable value of a strong, balanced, all-round education with academic rigour at its heart.

‘Overall, these results are a just reward for the hard work and determination that every one of our students has demonstrated throughout their two years in the Sixth Form as well, of course, as the support provided by both parents and our dedicated academic staff.

‘All Hurst students who want to do so will now pass on to University, either this Autumn or after taking a gap year. There they will face many new challenges in a new environment and I know they will acquit themselves well. Whilst our first responsibility is to enable each child to achieve his or her academic potential, we never allow ourselves to lose sight of the fact that we are here to help our young people to develop all their natural talents and skills, and to discover new ones. In this, and in many, many other ways, I know that the students leaving us this Summer will value Hurst’s contribution for the rest of their lives.’
