Tim Manly, Headmaster of Hurst, makes the presentation to Jessie Drae, winner on Quantum Lights of The Hurstpierpoint College British 148 cm Championship
Hurstpierpoint College moved to strengthen still further its great tradition of outdoor pursuits when it sponsored at The Hurstpierpoint College British 148 cm Championship this year’s Hickstead British Jumping Derby Meeting. “Powerful sporting, outdoor pursuits, creative and performing arts programmes are vital counterpoints to the rigour of Hurst’s academic life” said Headmaster Tim Manly “and with successful College dressage, polo and jumping squads, the decision to become more closely involved with Hickstead seemed entirely natural”.
This year, the going was soft and the standard very high, producing a superb six pony jump off. The Championship was finally taken home to Sussex by Jessie Drea whose brilliant double clear on Lynne Humphries’ Quantum Light enabled her to eclipse Rebecca Roe’s performance on Aroldo by nearly two seconds.
“It’s a nice coincidence commented Tim Manly that young Ellie Bunn has just been elected Head Girl in our Prep School for next year and, of course, we are very proud of Lucy Bunn whose jumping is getting better by the day and who produced a fine performance in the Derby Trophy event that followed our event.
Finally, I must mention another star from our Prep School, Amy Inglis who has just won the 128 cm Horse of the Year Show qualifier at Western Lawns Equitation where she beat some 76 other competitors all of whom were older than her! Amy will now complete at the Horse of the Year Show at the N.E.C. in Birmingham in October.”
