Sport

Hurst has a very strong sporting tradition.  The 140 acre campus provides excellent facilities including extensive playing fields, two floodlit all-weather pitches, a sports complex with an indoor swimming pool, a fitness centre, netball and tennis tennis courts.  There is a wide range of sports on offer for all levels.

For girls, hockey, netball, rounders and tennis are the principal sports whilst for boys they are rugby, hockey, cricket and athletics. To read more about each major sport, please click on the images below. 

The School has an excellent regional reputation and many Hurst boys and girls represent their County every year. 

We aim at Hurst to ensure that ‘nobody is left on the bench’.  Every pupil, with the enthusiasm to do so, is likely to represent the School at some level.  Second, the coaching is, in a word, outstanding.  It is noticeable how supportive Hurst boys and girls are of each other whatever the activity, encouraging ever greater success.  These three factors combine to produce a real Hurst spirit in sport which is palpable to the spectators.  Our pupils play sport not just to win but also for the joy of it.  As importantly, they learn how to be gracious in victory and dignified in defeat.

By their involvement in sport, our pupils develop skills of teamwork, leadership and commitment – qualities of immense value in every aspect of their future lives.  At the same time, it is intended that they will develop interests which will extend beyond their years at Hurst, thus benefiting both their physical well-being and social life.Hurst’s diverse sporting programme also enables children to develop skills and qualifications in a range of outdoor pursuits including climbing, sailing, shooting, kayaking and equestrianism.  Team and adventure sports parties travel abroad regularly; recent trips include tours of Australia, New Zealand, India, South Africa, Barbados, Dubai and the Alps.
