Hurst entered three teams for the National Schools Tournament at Roedean this term. Weather conditions at Roedean are bracing at the best of times and at times all the schools present must have felt that they were playing the wind rather than against each other!
The U14 team won 5 of their 7 matches, drawing the remaining 2. Their endeavours were rewarded by being runners up in their pool but in the semi-final they suffered their first defeat against a strong opponent and did not progress any further.
The girls were playing together in their first term at the Senior School, which is a girls' hockey term at Hurst, and the U14s will clearly become a force to be reckoned with as they move through the school.
The U16 team played 6 matches, winning 4, drawing 1 and losing 1.
The girls knew that the draw and the loss meant that qualification into the semi-finals was likely to depend on the results of other schools' matches. The girls were on tenterhooks as the various permutations of other schools' results and goal difference were factored into the equation; in the event when the results were clarified, they had just missed out on making the semi-finals.

The mighty 1st VII continued their winning ways and won 8 out of their 10 round robin matches, beating some of their local rivals convincingly along the way.
As their section of the competition was all completed in the one pool, there were no semi-finals or finals to be contested and they are through to the regional round of the competition due to take place on 28th January 2012 at East Grinstead.
Hurst teams have also been busy this term in the Sussex Knock out Cup competition and it is a demonstration of just how strong Hurst netball has become that all 4 teams - U14, U15, U16 and 1st VII - are safely into the 3rd round of the competition which is in effect the quarter final stage, with matches due to be played early in 2012.
The Hurst netball season will get off to a start in January; we wish all teams the best of luck with their school and competition fixtures.
