During the Easter Holidays of 2009, 45 musicians from Hurst toured California for fourteen days. The schedule was a hectic one including 13 performances and sightseeing across the state from San Diego in the south to San Francisco further north.
T
he choir sang evensong in St Paul’s Cathedral, San Diego, Trinity Cathedral, San Jose and Grace Cathedral, San Francisco (broadcast live on the internet) as well as singing in a number of smaller churches in towns such as San Luis Obispo and Berkeley. Also on tour was the Jazz Band whose musical highlight has to be their two performances at the world famous Monterey Jazz Festival.
The tour was an ‘All American Experience’ for all concerned and the sightseeing included world famous sights such as the Golden Gate Bridge, a tour of Alcatraz, a baseball game at the San Francisco Giants, Hollywood, Universal Studios and, of course, Disneyland.
The tour party left the UK as a group of good singers and players. It returned as a group of fantastic musicians who work together to produce high quality, professional and polished performances. Hurst is always proud of its pupils – in the USA we were more than proud to tour and work with such a fabulous group of young people.
