Hurst Musicians enter Mid-Sussex Music Competition

hurst musicians-A small but, nonetheless, important representation from Hurst's Music Department recently took part in the Mid Sussex Competitive Music Festival. Over two weekends, our students competed against other teenagers from all over Sussex in this festival. Competitors prepared to play in front of some of the country's leading musicians to receive critical feedback on their playing.  You would be right in thinking that this was a nerve racking challenge but our pupils were seemingly unperturbed by this. Indeed, they managed to walk away with an impressive stash of first and second places and a small hoard of silverware.

Highlights included:
Ross Clover * Class 120 - Brass Jazz - 2nd
Rory Green was awarded the Casals Cup
* Class 320 - Solo Cello - 1st
Alice Peters received the Villa Lobos Cup
* Class 321 - Solo Cello Grades 7 - 8 - 1st;
* Class 333 - Cello piece by Villa Lobos - 1st
Corey Wickens won the Menuhin Cup
* Class 330 - Sonata Class - 1st Place;
* Class 311 - Solo Violin 16 years and over - 1st

 Congratulations to all who took part and to all who represented Hurst in such a positive light.
