In its fifth year running, an unprecedented 100 riders from 12 schools attended the All England Show Jumping Course with each of the three classes tightly contested to the last.
Class One, with jumps up to 1’6”, resulted in a victory for Burgess Hill Navy Team when Vicky Henderson cleared the jump off in 27.71 seconds. Hurst’s Red Team jumped in 30.34 to take 2nd and Dorset House finished on 38.31 for 3rd.
In the second class, jumping up to 2’6”, the team competition was collected by Copthorne Prep School with a combined time of 86.18 seconds. The individual rosette was awarded to Clarissa Burnell-Price of Farlington School for her time of 27.56 seconds.
The tallest jumps of the competition reached 3’ in Class Three. Hurst’s Red Team of Ben Berrill, Nicole Patterson-Vanegas, Georgia Brown and Emily Roser, stormed to a victory as the only team to all jump clear. A solo time of 29.15 seconds by Ella Popely of Burgess Hill’s Navy Team just edged out Hurst’s Lauren Hope and Mariella Savage, who finished in 30.9 and 34.22 seconds respectively.
Event organiser and Hurst Team Manager, Sarah Miles, once again masterminded the entire day alongside her role as Year 4 teacher in Hurst Prep. “This is very exciting for the year ahead” commented Sarah “as our pupils have proved that Hurst has a great deal of talent at every level. We will be entering teams into many inter-school events throughout the year which should stand us in good stead for the National Schools competition in August.”
“This increasingly popular annual event” said Hurst’s Headmaster Tim Manly “is always a wonderful opportunity for young riders from local state and independent schools to experience fun, friendly competition against one another".
