Hurst Fifth Formers celebrate GCSE Results

GCSE Results

27 Hurst pupils from Sussex gained ten or more A* or A’s and, overall, the results set a benchmark against which future results will be judged.

“Hurst” says Headmaster Tim Manly “welcomes children across a reasonably broad range of abilities and our Fifth formers celebrated very strong results this year, which also had a higher than previously Value Added score. We are not, and will never be, a results driven’ exam factory’. We do not cull post (or prior) GCSE, nor do we force a particular suite of subjects which might play to the English Baccalaureate or other league table rankings. The College is absolutely committed to nurturing pupils' talents throughout their school years and every year we review and strengthen our provision to ensure that our academic standards remain first class."

GCSE Results"Every Fifth former here has, in his or her own way, contributed much and the year group as a whole has built an enviable reputation for its achievements in the creative and dramatic arts, in sport and in the wider life of the school. Yet, throughout, they have never lost sight of their personal academic goals. They were all encouraged to take academically rigorous subjects aimed to provide them with a secure, broad-based, foundation for their future studies, whether they choose to take the International Baccalaureate or A levels during their Sixth Form years.”

"Their success is a tribute to their drive, enthusiasm and ability. It is also a reflection of the impressive way in which they have been mentored by the academic staff at Hurst and supported by their parents at home..”

“As the Good Schools Guide recently reported, we are a school where ‘each child is tracked and challenged to reach their full potential in all areas of their lives, and where they are encouraged to push themselves beyond their comfort zone’. Thus these results represent just one – albeit absolutely fundamental – aspect of their education here at Hurst. They have all worked very hard and really deserve success.. I am greatly looking forward to welcoming them back in September; as Sixth formers they will continue to make a superb contribution to life at Hurst.”
