Tim Moses joined the Senior School from the Prep School with music and sports scholarships. Tim is a talented cellist but literally has more than one string to his bow as he is a right-handed seam bowler and a hard-hitting left-handed batsman. He has played for school teams throughout his time at Hurst and last year as a 15 year old, he joined the 1st XI squad. He has played at various age groups at county level for Sussex and in December travelled to Cape Town with the Sussex CCC Academy, as part of their selection process for the new intake this January. It is impossible to predict with any certainty when, or indeed if, a pupil will gain Grade 8 in their instrumental or vocal examinations. Just as it can be with buses and trains, having waited what can seem like forever for one to appear, a number all turn up at the same time. It is with considerable excitement, and not a little pride that we have just learned that an unprecedented four pupils from the Senior school achieved their Grade 8's in examinations taken at the end of the Michaelmas Term. A Grade 8 standard reflects years’ of practice and study. It culminates in a 1/2 hour external examination and tests students in all areas of their musical understanding.
