“The school is very proud of the achievements of both its A level and its GCSE students” said Tim Manly, Headmaster of Hurstpierpoint College, on the morning that the GCSE results were announced.
“This year’s GCSE cohort is the largest in the history of the school and, by any measure, they have surpassed the achievements of earlier years. This is a marvellous feat by a group of young men and women whose talents and achievements beyond the classroom - in the visual and performing arts, through the Duke of Edinburgh scheme and other adventure activities and on the sports field - have been mightily impressive throughout their time here. They have all worked hard and – well supported by my excellent staff – the vast majority have achieved their personal bests which is what all our pupils instinctively strive for in whatever they do.
“I am particularly pleased with the record number of A* and A grades this year which represents a significant increase on the College’s previous best performance. We have chalked up records in the number of passes at A*-B and A*-C grades as well and some 88% of our candidates have achieved A*-B grades in 10 or more subjects. All in all, a remarkable performance.
“These results continue the trend of significant improvements that has been evident over the last four years at both GCSE and A level where our A*-B passes have once again increased strongly and most students are now moving on to the University of their choice. I’m particularly pleased that, once again, our results demonstrate that one of Hurst’s very special strengths is in adding value to the grades achieved by our pupils in public examinations.
“It’s sad to say goodbye to a strong and engaging Upper Sixth as they move on to their University years but I know that we will all stay in touch. In the meantime, I greatly look forward to welcoming our GCSE group into the Lower Sixth in only a few days; they have been, and will continue to be, great role models for younger students in the school.”
