"I am delighted that they have done so well"

“I am delighted that they have all done so well" said Headmaster Tim Manly today. "Both pupils and staff have worked very hard over the last year and to achieve the sort of grades that they have is a real tribute both to them and the School.  As those who know Hurst well will recognise, this is not a school which aggressively selects and recruits pupils, nor does it cull them out ruthlessly after GCSE exams. And so to achieve nearly 50% A*/A grades at A level is a real success story. Perhaps more than this, this year group has been very special to me. They were the first year group to arrive in my Headship and they have helped to develop and change the School in so many different ways. Whilst they have been here they have contributed so much in terms of Sport, the Creative and Performing Arts, as well as activities of every sort. They go on now from here to their chosen universities I know that whether they will be at Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial or any other University from Exeter to Aberdeen, that they will be successful and will thrive. It has been a Chrisreal pleasure to have been Headmaster with such students.”

Hurst’s best performer was Christopher Savory (left, talking to Hurstpierpoint College Headmaster, TIm Manly) from Burgess Hill who gained 5 A stars and goes on to study Chemistry at Oxford. His achievement was almost equalled by Michael Zhang from Hassocks (on the right in the picture below) who gained 4A* and an A and who will go on to University next year after taking a year's work experience.

Abigail Walker from Burgess Hill heads off to Cambridge to study Classics. The full list of Hurst’s star performers who live locally and achieved three or more A levels at either grade A or A* is as follows:
