Hurst Prep's ski trip a fantastic successThe party left Gatwick for Girona Airport late Sunday afternoon and although February 15th was the last day of Masella’s official season, the Pyrenean resort still had good quality snow aplenty and the weather was perfect. In fact, the resort is particularly popular with Catalans because of its extensive slopes and the fact that it enjoys its own special microclimate and so records more hours of sunshine than any other ski destination in the Spanish Pyrenees.
The hotel provided good accommodation and, very importantly, the food was both good and plentiful. Vital though these factors are to the success of any trip, the object of the exercise was to ski and the pistes were simply amazing. Hurst almost had the vast slopes to
themselves, which was surprising since they were still coated with exactly the right type of snow. The children had a great time skiing (and the staff were very impressed indeed by the progress they all made during the week) and even found the energy, on some evenings, to go tobogganing. Other evenings were filled with hectic and good humoured indoor activities such as quiz nights, crazy nights, karaoke and even a disco. Strangely neither children nor staff complained when bedtime arrived …
The trip back was more eventful – leaving by coach after rather too hasty a breakfast for some led to some speedy
and skilled work with wet wipes being required to return the coach to the condition in which it arrived. Thankfully the rest of the journey was pretty uneventful and we arrived home feeling very fit, very well, just a little tired and extremely happy. We're determined to repeat the experience next year; it could be the start of another great annual Hurst tradition …
