Year 8 pupils at Hurstpierpoint College went on a history trip to Leeds Castle on Monday 6th October to learn more about the Tudors and Art in the 16th Century. Below Year 8 pupil Linus Deluca-Perry describes the day.
Britain’s Got Talent finalist, Richard Hadfield, returned to his former school on Monday 2nd June. He gave an inspirational talk to Hurst pupils about the importance of having ambition and working hard to achieve their dreams.
The dramatic story of The Great Fire of London has been told through a day of fun re-enactment and tasks for the children.

Children made baked apples and lemonade using lemon juice, water, sugar and bicarbonate of soda (to make it fizzy), when they visited Preston Manor.
They also visited the boot room, looked at a posser, a dolly, a washboard and a mangle, which are the things the servants used to use to wash clothes.
The children in Pre-Prep are really enjoying the snowy weather. We have snowmen and snowballs in abundance!
Reception classes (Penguins and Dolphins) visited the Booth Museum in Brighton to learn more about fossils. They saw many interesting exhibits and interactive displays, including this giant ammonite. The visit was to support our current topic, 'Out of the Swamp'.
Michaelmas Term 2012
Hurstpierpoint College has raised over fourteen thousand pounds for the charity Chestnut Tree House hospice in 2012.
The 'Bird Man' came to visit the Pre-Prep School with an Owl, Bald Eagle and Hawk. The children watched in amazement as the rare birds flew above them in the large sports hall.
The Pre-Prep Turtle class went into the "Forest Garden" to learn some woodland skills and built a shelter for their Hurst bear.
Parents from Shark Class were invited to help the children make hats for the Christmas part.
Year 2 children have visited a retirement home for elderly residents in Crawley.
The children sang songs they had performed in the Nativity as well as a selection of popular tunes that they sing in school and some Christmas carols. The children also spent some time talking to the residents before making their journey home.
The Hurst Pre-Prep nativity has delighted an audience inside the College chapel with an engaging performance of the Christmas story.
Children's author and illustrator visits Hurst Pre-Prep
Eileen Browne, children's author and illustrator, has visited Hurst Pre-Prep as part of Book Week. Creator of the well known and loved picture books ‘Handa’s Surprise’ and ‘Handa’s Hen’, Eileen spent time with each Year Group, reading stories and talking about the creative process. After explaining how story ideas develop into published books, Eileen also led creative drawing workshops.
Hurst Pre-Prep children forging ahead with literacy skills
One of the prime objectives of Hurst Pre-Prep is to take boys and girls on a journey where they move from ‘learning to read’ towards ‘reading to learn’ in the three years that they spend in the school.
Year One were very excited to be able to help a class of Senior School pupils today. The pupils, all from our 6th form, have been challenged by their DT teacher to design and make a chair suitable for 5-6yr olds…Year One were of course bursting with ideas.
Two-headed boy A two-headed boy was spotted on the Pre-prep playground during a fire practice. Michele Finnegan, the Head, said ‘In all my years of teaching, I have never seen anything quite like this!'
Year 1 Pirate Day
Year 1 children dressed as their favourite pirate character and followed clues on a treasure hunt around the school.
Young Artists Pick Up Prizes
Earlier on in the year, ‘Sightsavers’ – The Haywards Heath charity – invited children from schools across the country to enter their ‘Junior Painter of the Year’ competition. The theme was ‘I care about...’. At the beginning of this term, the winners were announced. We were thrilled that two of the six winners were Hurst’s very own Louie Tegerdine and Harry Bostock! We love Louie’s ‘Magic Teddy’ and Harry’s ‘I care about elephants’ paintings as much as the judges did.
Monsters on the loose!
Keep a look out for these terrifying monsters which were created in Art Club earlier in the term.
Parents joined the Pre-Prep and the Prep school for our Harvest celebration in the Chapel. The Pre-Prep teachers were tremendously proud of their children’s enthusiastic singing.
