Enrichment Tasks - Michaelmas Term 2010

Exploding volcanoes, autumn collages and outfits designed from recycled materials were just some of the outstanding projects completed as part of the Enrichment tasks in the Michaelmas Term. The children especially enjoyed making their volcanoes explode as an unofficial but fiercely contested competition ‘erupted’ to see who could make the most spectacular lava flow! Each task had an ‘Eco Hurst’ focus, which meant that the pupils had to consider issues such as energy renewal, recycling or efficiency in their independent research. The Librarians, Mrs Reed and Mr Partis, once again supported the children’s work by promoting the use of the Big6, a planning tool that can guide a path through the most complicated assignment.

A record number of children in the Prep school took part with over forty children completing a project, from Bleriot to Evacuees, from creating an animation to designing a menu in French. The finished work was celebrated and displayed in the library and in classrooms throughout the school.

The Enrichment tasks provide the pupils with an opportunity to shine and show off their skills in areas not covered in the classroom. It is tremendous to see such enthusiasm and pride in the work they produce, the photos say it all!

Well done to all those who took part; the e-credits earned will be exchanged for an adventurous treat next term!
