Students from both the Prep and Senior schools took part on a testing stage at Brighton College; reciting Latin and Greek texts to an audience that included a panel of judges.
Competitors from Prep’s Year 7 collected the winners’ prizes for both the group and individual events and the Year 8’s took the pairs 1st prize. Meanwhile the Senior School can boast a clutch of 1st and 2nd places; Year 10 (Remove) pupil Gitanjali Khot won the individual Latin category, whilst her Year 10 peers Harry Hazeldean and Joss Harris won 1st and 2nd place respectively in the individual Greek event.
There was silver success in the Lower Sixth form too, as Benjy Mason gained a 2nd prize in Latin, with his reading of Catullus’ Poem 8.
Head of Classics, Ben Cole said, “I was so happy to see so many students drawn together by their desire to risk all in front of a crowd and to indulge their passion for Latin and Greek. The children from both schools behaved impeccably and were a superb advertisement for the College as a whole. Congratulations to them all”.
