At Hurst Prep, Art is very strong, academically rigorous and an integral cog in the creative hub of this community. We are fortunate to have many talented artists throughout the school.
Every pupil has a great opportunity to visually explore and question the world around them, and every attention to detail is taken to ensure that Art is rich and vibrant and that each pupil achieves their artistic potential. Pupils are able to embrace modern technologies such as working with 3D construction media/processes, and digital photography. In addition they explore the basic elements through painting, drawing and printing techniques, such as block, etching and mono, and textiles processes - silk painting and weaving.
A programme of extra art activities takes place three times a week, which is enhanced by trips to a range of galleries such as the Saatchi Gallery, Tate Modern/Britain, Brighton Art Gallery and the Booth Museum as well as The Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew, Richmond.
Talented artists can achieve a 13+ Art Scholarship Award and in the past few years we have been very successful in this regard, with six awards in 2009/10.
An Exhibition of Year 7 and 8 work laid on for parents takes place every Summer term following the examinations which is well attended and highly successful.
