Academic

Academic study lies at the heart of the Hurst education. We have high expectations of all our pupils and are committed to doing everything we can to enable them to realise their academic potential.

Teaching is delivered by excellent, enthusiastic staff; who know their pupils as individuals and tailor their lessons to address the needs of each child. The curriculum is broad and balanced. Study is supported through regular access to the dynamic Learning Resource Centre and ICT is employed to maximum advantage.

Learning at Hurst acknowledges that inspirational teaching has to be at the heart of all we do. Using the best mix of traditional and modern teaching methods, we constantly strive to stimulate the children’s intellect and captivate their imagination.

Small classes linked to appropriate setting and differentiation, ensure that individual needs are met and all are appropriately challenged and stretched. Regular assessment enables the teachers to monitor progress and guide the children so that they can reach their academic potential.

Throughout their time at Hurst, we work in partnership with parents to ensure that children thrive academically. Communication is frequent and regular through prep diaries, e-mail, regular grade reviews, written reports and parents’ evenings.
The overwhelming majority of Hurst Prep School pupils move on to the Senior School at 13+.
