These are very exciting times for Hurst. The School has seen real growth over the last five years, the pupils are thriving and our reputation is high. Academically, standards have steadily risen and in every aspect of the broader Hurst education, we seem to be at full tilt. However, despite all the recent new buildings and developments, we have a weakness. As set out in the appeal brochure below, a single Astroturf is no longer sufficient for a school with nearly 1000 pupils and an educational philosophy that believes in sport for all, competitive excellence and “no one on the bench”.
The Second Astro - “An Astro Turf Plus”
After considerable thought and discussion, we are determined to build a second Astroturf. It will not just be any old Astroturf but rather an “Astroturf Plus”- an AstroTurf pitch for Hockey but with an extra third which will be configured in terms of its surface and markings in such a way that it will provide a high quality facility for Tennis, Netball, Cricket and Golf practice. I do not wish to overstate it, but this proposed facility will revolutionise many aspects of sport at Hurst. Every child in the College will benefit.

Funding
Very rarely does the College look outside for help with funding of campus projects. The last time was over 10 years ago. Indeed, it is the responsibility of the College to ensure that the core facilities are everything that they should be and we have invested heavily in the campus over the past 5 years. However, on this occasion, we are turning to those within the Hurst community for support. The College will certainly do its part but we will need to spend £750,000 for this project (yes, building an astroturf is expensive) and I am now looking to parents, OJs, and Friends of the College to fund a major portion of this amount - £500,000.
