Hurst Prep caters for children from Years 3 to 8. Many children move up from our Pre-Prep and we also welcome new admissions into Year 3 or into any other year group providing we have spaces available. In Year 7 we have a large intake of pupils joining us from local primary schools and the year group doubles in size from two forms to four.
In Years 3 and 4 teaching is still predominantly given by the form teacher with the exception of some subjects such as Music and PE.
In Years 5 and 6 however, the children have greater independence and move about the Prep School to benefit from specialist subject teachers for all their lessons. They still have the support of a strong form system with their tutor at the heart of their pastoral care.
The Head of Years 3-6 works closely with all the form tutors to oversee the academic and pastoral wellbeing of all children in those years.
The pupils in Years 7 and 8 are expected to take greater ownership of their own academic journey in what is seen as pre-GCSE years. School reports are written to them and they also attend parents evenings. There are separate heads of year for each group to ensure that not only are they achieving their best but as year groups they integrate well and are ready for the challenges of the Senior School.
Our pupils benefit enormously from being part of the overall College. Aside from their own Library, Computer room, Art room and classrooms for academic lessons, they also share the modern Science labs, DT workshops and further Computer rooms within the Senior School.
For co-curricular activities the facilities available are quite staggering. A range of theatres for drama rehearsals and performances, two fully-equipped dance spaces, the Music School, Sports Hall, indoor swimming pool, astroturfs, netball courts and traditional grass pitches.
We believe Hurst Prep School is a special place where children learn, grow and develop in the safe, caring and happy environment we provide.
We hope you will come to visit our school and find out more about what we can offer your child.
