Our Player Welfare Programme was developed in 2014 to treat and support our young athletes with sports injuries. This unique, multi-faceted and visionary programme with its integrated and reliable service is highly regarded by other schools.
The Player Welfare Programme aims to manage the physical needs of our student athletes and provides robust medical support, which is so important.
Rob Kift, Director of Sport
The team of sports injury specialists includes highly-skilled chartered physio and sports therapists who provide clinical injury assessment, advice and monitor students’ recovery from injuries. Rehabilitation and prevention through education is an important focus of the service.
In-house clinics are held three days per week, with pitch-side first aid provided for many events. The team integrate closely with the college’s Medical Centre, the Sports department and houseparents.
Our Player Welfare Service is run by Physio Science UK, which was set up in 2012 by two directors who combined their passion, knowledge, experience, and professional networks in elite sport science and medicine to provide bespoke sport science solutions and services to professional, amateur and academic organisations.
A new addition to the facilities in the Player Welfare room is the Rehab room - exercise and rehabilitation is an essential part of an athlete's recovery process.
Injury management and reporting
Parents will be notified of any injury that requires further management via the injury notification system. All therapists are qualified in sports trauma management and the team have strong concussion and serious injury management protocols, which complies with advice from international sporting bodies.
Strength and conditioning
Hurst is rolling out a strength and conditioning programme across the college offering one to one and group sessions. Our fully qualified strength and conditioning coach and gym manager work hand in hand with the player welfare team to prepare players as well as possible for fixtures, and aid recovery post-game.
