Our educational, living and social facilities are of the highest standard. We regularly invest in new developments on our 140-acre campus to further improve the educational environment. We have a dedicated and qualified team who look after the buildings and grounds who also advise on further developments to the College when required.
Most Senior School, Sixth Form and Prep School Year 7/8 lessons take place in the academic building which includes classrooms, a large conference room, a well-resourced library and the Moore Hall. The Science labs and new Design Centre are also part of the academic building.
Chapel - St John's
The Chapel is a beautiful 1850s building, which formed part of the original Hurstpierpoint College, and it's spire is visible from across the village and neighbouring towns. This traditional chapel has a large altar, organ, long pews and is used for the weekly Prep and Senior School services which take place as part of our timetable, as well as for special events such as music concerts. It is also used occasionally for weddings. A new stained glass window was designed and installed in 2013 and a new mezzanine with glass frontage was also added for elevated viewing during concerts and services.
Hurst's stunning flint buildings are often described by visitors as being similar to Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films. Our traditional dining room is quite striking with its high ceiling, wooden benches and original house flags hung from the high walls. All Senior School pupils and Prep School pupils have their lunch here, and it is also used by some pupils for breakfast and dinner.
The school owns a small on-site farm which Senior and Sixth Form students help maintain as part of their extra-curricular activities. The farm is currently home to four sheep, three goats, a pig, chickens and ducks. The farm is used for educational purposes and Prep School children regularly visit the animals as part of their curriculum.
The Senior School Library has two floors; the first for senior school students and the second reserved for Sixth Formers. Hurst has two full-time qualified Librarians on hand to support pupils and staff. Alongside an extensive fiction collection and non-fiction books on every subject, the Library offers e-books, audio books and access to online resources, including JSTOR. There is a small cafe area with over 40 magazines and a wide range of DVDs. The library also provides a good working space where pupils can research using library computers or their own laptops. There are bookable small meeting rooms, with electronic screens and whiteboards, used for presentations, group work, teaching and revision. The second floor gives the Sixth Form their own space to work during their free periods and during Prep until 9pm and provides a dedicated Careers room.
We have a large Medical Centre, within easy access of all areas of the college, which includes beds and overnight facilities for boarders, when required. Our fully-trained medical staff are onsite during school hours. Our Sports department also has a dedicated Player Welfare team with four sports injury specialists.
The Moore Hall
The Moore Hall is located on the ground floor of the academic building/Library. The large space, with pull-out raked seating, is a flexible facility and is used for Prep School assemblies, performances and conferences.
Performing Arts facilities
Performing Arts students take lessons in the Drama and Dance studios. Dance lessons also take place in the Moore Hall which is equipped as a dance facility with bars and mirrors along the longest wall.
The college has its own theatre, The Bury, for performances and lessons, which is equipped with a professional lighting and sound system and tiered seating for an audience of up to 250.
The Music School has a hall which is used regularly for musical performances, with an attached recording studio.
