Chapel

The Chapel is a beautiful 1850s building, built in the heart of the College. Its spire is visible from across the village and neighbouring towns. This traditional chapel has a large altar, organ, long pews, stained glass windows and a mezzanine with glass frontage for elevated viewing during concerts and services.

The Chapel is used by the Junior Prep, Senior Prep, Senior School and Sixth Form for weekly services.  It is also the stage for our Junior Prep annual Nativity plays and special events such as the Harvest Festival. It is occasionally used for weddings.

Dining Hall

The traditional Dining Hall is striking with its high ceiling, wooden benches and historic flags hung from the high walls. It is the ideal place for our pupils to gather and enjoy their meals together.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner is served in the Dining Hall each day from a fully equipped modern kitchen. There are hot and cold serving areas as well as a variety of drink stations. The catering department cater for all dietary requirements.

Farm

The school owns a small on-site farm which Senior and Sixth Form students help maintain as part of their extra-curricular activities. In addition to an orchard, there is a small allotment with various vegetables and herbs and there is a continual rotation of sheep, goats, pigs, chickens and ducks. Junior Prep and Senior Prep pupils regularly visit the animals as part of their curriculum.

Houses

Hurst has twelve boarding and day houses for Senior School and Lower Sixth students. St John’s house is the Upper Sixth Form co-ed House. Read more about these under Pastoral.

Junior Prep School

Reception to Year 2: Our Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 classrooms are housed in a bespoke environment where the classrooms have free-flow to a covered outdoor area which becomes an extension of the classroom.

In addition, an all-weather playground provides a stimulating environment for creative, imaginative play times.

Pupils have regular lessons in our on-site Woodland School. This forms part of their early science curriculum and enables the children to explore and experience the outdoors in a safe and educational way.

Library

Library facilities are available in both the Prep and Senior Schools.  The Prep School library is housed within the heart of the Prep School and is regularly used for clubs, reading and group work.

The Senior School library has three floors;

The ground floor is a multi-purpose hall (The Moore Hall) which has pull out raked seating, hard flooring, full length mirrors and bars making this a flexible resource.

The first floor is the general library area for Senior School students and in addition to the usual books there are work areas equipped with computers, a breakfast bar area for those who bring their own laptops and a small café area with a range of refreshments, magazines, casual seating and a variety of DVDs.  There is a choice of fully equipped meeting rooms, perfect for small group or individual revision or teaching work.

The top floor is reserved for sixth form pupils and included in this area is a multi function seminar room as well as the hub for careers and university support.  Key sixth for staff have their offices on this floor making them easily accessible for pupils.

The library runs various clubs and activities during lunch times and activities sessions and actively promotes reading for pleasure in a variety of ways.  The library is the EPQ centre for sixth form students.
